When God Feels Like a Silent Hiring Manager

Let’s talk about something nobody prepares you for:
The job hunt.
But more specifically, the spiritual job hunt.
You know, the season where every door seems locked, every recruiter ghosting you, and even your LinkedIn Premium trial has the audacity to expire. You refresh your inbox 23 times a day. You rewrite your résumé like it’s a sacred text. And somewhere in that holy chaos, you whisper:
“God, if You’re up there… can You just act like a hiring manager and tell me what You want?”
And then, one night, in the middle of eating dry cereal and contemplating life in your least flattering socks—you fall asleep. And dream.
Suddenly, you’re not in your apartment anymore. You’re in Heaven’s HR department.
Think: startup vibes meets sacred sanctuary.
There’s a Keurig that dispenses oat milk lattes. Angels with clipboards float past in business casual robes. Worship music plays softly—remixed like lo-fi beats to pray/study/cry to.
You’re called in by a receptionist angel named Carl.
“God’s ready to see you,” he says. “Conference Room 7 — between Eternal Purpose and Unanswered Prayers.”
And there He is.
God.
Desk made of clouds. A cardigan and wise eyes. Holding a scroll glowing with the entirety of your job applications, cover letters, and 2 AM Google searches like: “Is it too late to become a marine biologist?”
He gestures for you to sit.
“Let’s talk,” He says. “You’ve got passion. Drive. Excellent meme instincts. But you also panic the second things don’t happen on your schedule.”
You nod slowly.
He continues, flipping the scroll: “Every ‘no’ you’ve received wasn’t Me ignoring you. It was Me redirecting you. You call it failure—I call it formation.”
“But I feel stuck,” you whisper.
He smiles. “Being planted and being buried feel the same. Until growth starts. Don’t confuse waiting with wasting.”
You blink. “But how do I know if the right job is coming?”
He replies, “You won’t. But that’s the point. Faith isn’t knowing—it’s trusting. Keep showing up. Keep praying. And maybe stop trying to network with Chad. He’s not your destiny—just loud on LinkedIn.”
He hands you a scroll that says:
“Coming Soon: Greater Than Expected”
Then adds, “Also… I prefer résumés as PDFs.”
And just like that—you wake up.
Still unemployed. Still unsure.
But somehow?
Not as hopeless.
The truth?
God isn’t ghosting you.
He’s guiding you.
And the delay isn’t punishment—it’s preparation.
So cry if you need to.
Then laugh.
Then move forward.
Because the offer coming your way isn’t just a job.
It’s a calling.
Custom-made.
Peace-included.
Dental optional.
